Bedroom air conditioning should be quiet enough to sleep with and controlled enough that the room does not feel draughty. The model matters, but the installation and position matter just as much.
Indoor noise
Modern wall-mounted units can run very quietly on low fan settings. Look for models with night mode, low fan speed and good temperature control. A bedroom unit does not need to be the most powerful model in the range if the room is sized correctly.
Where the indoor unit goes
Avoid placing the indoor unit where it blows directly across your face in bed. A good position lets cool air mix through the room while keeping the bed comfortable. Sometimes moving the unit slightly along a wall makes a big difference to night comfort.
Outdoor unit noise
Outdoor unit placement should consider neighbours as well as your own room. Dense London streets, balconies and shared gardens need thoughtful positioning. Suitable mounts and a solid fixing can help reduce vibration.
Controls and habits
For sleep, pre-cool the room before bed, then run a quiet low setting overnight. This often feels better than waiting until the room is very hot and asking the unit to work hard while you are trying to sleep.
